Hello lovely bloggers! Hopefully, you all are having a nice week so far! And yes, as you can see... there has been a big change with my appearance. I cut my hair...very...very...short. Not even kidding, I may have cut off about 12 inches of my hair.

It feels so light and refreshing and so so SO good now! I honestly don't know why I didn't do this earlier. I don't have to maintain my hair as much anymore (not that I really did before anyways), and it's very easy to style! If you're thinking about making a huge change with your appearance, I encourage you to just go for it. You have a whole lifetime to try things out-- and if you don't like it, just know that it's only temporary!

I've been going back and forth for months on whether or not I should cut my hair short or keep it long. A week ago I couldn't take it anymore, so I made a decision on a whim and told my mom (she's a hair-stylist) to just cut it all off before I changed my mind. I'm so glad I did. Sometimes, you just need that little leap of faith to be happy, you know?

Anyways, enough about my hair. Can we please talk about what I named this blog post? Sometimes when I don't know what to title my posts, I just type a name of a song that I've been loving lately (that's somewhat relevant too!). I heard this song while listening to my lovely friend's, Gavin's, Spotify playlist (god bless Spotify Premium, am I right??). It puts me in such a good mood! Definitely go and check it out!

I think I'm just rambling now, so I better end this blog post. Thank you for keeping up with me and my blog! I hope you guys liked this week's outfit and you shall hear from me this Saturday! Have a lovely rest of the week and happy blogging!
Xo, Vanessa.

TAG QUESTIONS

Hello, lovely bloggers! How has your week been going for you?? I hope it's better than what I've had to go through. Let's just say there was a car accident involved (luckily, nobody was hurt), a Government test that I literally failed (not exaggerating), and very late nights editing a video project for my Literature test (which I thought was due on Friday, but was postponed to Monday).

Anyways, enough my daily problems... Today, I bring to you a tag post! I just googled some random tag questions to answer for you guys. I thought that answering them would help you get to know me even more on a friend-to-friend basis, ya' know?? Okay enough small talk, let's begin!

Shot by friend, Cat.

What's a nickname only your family calls you?
My family calls me by my middle name, which is a Vietnamese name, Vi. But funny thing is, my friends call me V without knowing it's my actual middle name (just spelled differently).

What's a weird habit of yours?
Sometimes I make dance routines in the shower with my music blasting in the background (don't tell me you don't do this)

What's a song you secretly LOVE to blast && belt out when you're alone?
What Dreams Are Made Of by Hilary Duff (or Party in the U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus). No shame.

What's one of your biggest pet peeves?
When I have to repeat what I have to say multiple of times.

What's one of your nervous habits?
I'm always moving or shaking, either with my fingers/hands/feet/legs, and I don't stop.

What was the last movie that you saw?
Ashby, which has also become one of my favorite movies!

What's the drink you ALWAYS order at Starbucks?
Either a Chai Latte with soy milk or Green Tea Latte with soy milk!! Both are addictions.

What's the beauty rule you preach.. but never ACTUALLY practice?
Coconut oil solves everything. There was a time I actually did use it for my hair/face/body ... but that went on for like 2 weeks. I should really start getting back into it hehe

Name three things that are physically close to you.
My camera, laptop, and car (technological, much??)

Do you have any 'weird' body 'skills'?
I'm pretty double-jointed all over my body. I can shift, for a lack of a better word, my bones connected in my fingers back and forth so that it pops (I honestly don't know how to better describe that, I'm so sorry). I can also pop the bones in my shoulders out.

What's your favorite 'comfort food'/food thats 'bad' but you love to eat it anyways?
Pasta pasta pasta, aways.

What's a phrase or exclamation you always say?
"P good!!" (abbreviation for "pretty good") or "wooow" (but very sarcastically)

This blog post isn't much, but I figured it's about time I do a talking post! If you guys like these kinds of posts, please tell me what else I should talk about; also, if you want to see anything specific on my blog, I'm happy to take it up to consideration! Just leave it in the comments or go to my ask tumblr [here]!

Meet Rayah

Here, I have been graced with Rayah Shapiro and her presence, and I was able to interview her and her experience with designing a dress that was to be sold in Nordstrom worldwide. Boho beach babe, Rayah is able to live her dreams at an early age and jump start her career in the fashion industry. Let’s hear what she has to say about herself:

Rayah! How has your hometown shaped you into the person you are today? How do you think your personality reflects your personal style?
Living by the beach has probably shaped me and my style the most. I have a more nonchalant, relaxed kind of vibe and that influences me to wear beachy outfits, even though I live in a rural area. My personality can be really different at times--sometimes I can be super beachy and sometimes I can be dressed up in high fashion. I definitely wear a lot of blues and greens because they bring out my fair skin color and light eyes. I also have a bohemian style and I love to wear Free People. Free People supports many different styles such as dressy or casual so I feel like Free People would represent my style the most: diverse.

What are your hobbies and what are you most passionate about?
I’ve stuck with artistic jobs and I more or less draw and create different kind of art pieces. I’m passionate about fashion and I try to immerse myself into anything involving fashion. I found this internship at Nordstrom called BP Fashion Board and I have also enrolled in an online program through Teen Vogue and Parsons.

And where or what do you grab your inspiration from when you create?
I take inspiration off of nature through aspects of color and shapes. It helps to just stop and take a break to look at nature and see everything it has to offer.

Okay, let’s talk about your experience with designing. What was the process of producing your dress design through the Nordstrom’s BP design contest like?
I based it off of what my friends and I would like. Again, growing up near the beach, I wanted to maintain that vibe so I made the design more of a shorter, flowy dress. I first drew this dress a long time ago and it was similar to a baby doll dress; I took the shape of dress for Nordstrom’s design and I used an applique of lace to have a bit of a different feel to it than just a plain fabric. Also, what was popular at the time was the t-shirt dress and I also based it off of that while also adding a few little twists to make it intriguing.

So what was your favorite part of the design process?
My favorite part was definitely going up to Seattle and seeing it in person. I didn’t think I was going to win the contest and I actually thought that the design was kind of lame, but then they contacted me and had me flown up to Seattle where corporate offices are. Seeing it come to life was pretty cool-- also, working and seeing it in the stores and people trying it on was amazing.

That sounds like such a amazing experience! Were your designs eventually sold out?
The black dresses sold out really fast and the ivory dresses were sold pretty well but not as as well as the black dresses!

Where do you hope to be in 10 years?
A: I hope to either be a head designer for a company that has already been established such as Free People, For Love and Lemons, and any other beach brands like Billabong or Roxy or to just have my own brand, which I have slightly already started building in my Commercial Art's class.

Now, I’m curious. Tell me more about your startup brand.
It’ll be called Rah, which is what my brother calls me-- to me, it also gives a sense of nature. Rah is like a natural raw feeling and I want to make sure that all of my clothes are sustainable in some way. They’re going to be activewear, lingerie, and swimwear; I’ll also make sure that my active wear is hybrid, which means it can go in water and dry really fast post-swim.

Where do you hope to go to school to achieve your dreams/goals?
I really hope to go to school in New York. I’ve lived in California my whole life and I love it, but I just want something different.

Okay, and is there anything you’ve learned about yourself since being involved with art your whole life...and now design?
I learned that I could do it. Definitely in the beginning, people would tell me that fashion is really hard to get into, that I wasn’t going to make it, that I’m not going to make any money. But knowing that my design was picked and that I didn’t even think it was that great is a really great feeling to just to know that I can make it.

What’s the best piece of advice that has ever been given to you?
My dad would always tell me to just to have fun and stay happy because that’s what is really important. If you’re not having fun, then what’s the point? And if you’re not happy, then you’re not having fun!

Is there any piece of advice you'd like to give for any prospective fashion designers or anyone thinking to join the fashion industry?
Go after anything you find and try to find certain ways into fashion. I still don’t know a whole lot about fashion, but I keep on striving to know all that I can and the reason I got this opportunity was trying to find ways to get into the fashion industry and through Nordstrom’s BP fashion board, I found that. The more you know and the more you do, the better you’ll be prepared for your future.

I hope you were as intrigued about Rayah as I was when listening about her talk about her endeavors and inspiration in life. She is the perfect role model for girls who want to venture into the fashion industry, so if I were you I’d take her advice to heart and follow your dreams.
